CECAN Fellowship: Use of Agile Management Methods for Research Teams

Mentors: Nigel Gilbert, Alex Penn

This fellowship project will develop a series of case studies and practical outputs for the adoption of Agile frameworks in the context of collaborative and cross-disciplinary research processes.

On the one hand, it will focus on the regular activities of several distributed teams at CECAN in order to adapt Agile practices like Scrum, Kanban and design sprints for the iterative and collaborative management of their research projects.

This will be based on a series of training and discussion sessions (about Agile principles, state of the art and tools), followed by an inception phase of co-design and planning for specific projects, leading to a series of parallel development processes for different remote teams during specific periods.

On the other hand, based on participant observation and other methods for data gathering and analysis (interviews, questionnaires, focus groups, statistics from digital tools), the fellowship project will develop at the same time a corpus of knowledge which will serve both as a contribution to different bodies of academic literature, like organisational management or science of team (through specific publications and congresses), and as a set of practical knowledge and tools (guidelines, toolkits and other online outputs).

Enric Senabre is research coordinator and PhD candidate at the Dimmons Research Group (Internet Interdisciplinary Institute – UOC). Previously an active member of the Platoniq collective, co-founder and project manager of the platform Goteo.org for civic crowdfunding, certified Scrum Master by the Scrum Alliance, vice-president of the Observatory for CyberSociety and associate professor of Software Studies at the Open University of Catalonia, where he holds a Master’s Degree in the Information and Knowledge Society.
