CECAN Training Bursaries

The Centre for the Evaluation of Complexity Across the Nexus (CECAN) has funding for a limited number of bursaries to support early career researchers and PhD students working across the social and natural sciences to further develop their skills on policy evaluation methods from a complex systems perspective.

Bursaries are available for CECAN Ltd courses (including those run by CECAN Ltd on behalf of the UK Evaluation Society). CECAN will fund up to £200 as a contribution towards training course fees only (subsistence expenses will not be covered). For details of our upcoming courses, please click here.

You can apply at any time. For the remainder of 2023, we will collate and assess the applications on 10th September and 10th November. Decisions will be made by the CECAN Executive Group and communicated no later than the first working day of the following month. We are unable to make any exceptions to this, so please ensure that you allow suitable time for processing.

If you have any questions regarding the bursary process, please contact Gail Deason (cecan@surrey.ac.uk)

Eligibility Criteria:

  • PhD applicants must be at least 12 months into programme;
  • ECR applicants must be a maximum of 5 years post PhD;
  • Applicants must be based in the UK;

Please note:

  • Bursaries are not transferable to another person or another course. A change of course requires a new bursary application;

  • Initial payments must be made by the successful applicant only (not the applicant’s institution/organisation). The applicant will then be reimbursed once they have attended the course;
  • Successful applicants will be required to provide a brief evaluation of the training and detail how they will use the training received.
