Webinar Overview:
Simon Henderson and Stuart Astill will give a talk showing how influence maps analysed using Bayesian Belief Networks can be used to add rigour to contribution analysis (and other evaluative judgements) in situations where subjective views rather than objective outcome data is the main source of knowledge. They will look at how a well-planned approach can structure and aggregate subjective views using influence mapping, Bayesian Belief Networks (BBNs) and conceptions around evaluating likelihoods.
Tutor Biographies:
Simon Henderson has spent nearly 30 years working on performance measurement, lesson-learning and accountability with public and civil society organisations in over 20 developing countries and in the UK. This has involved spells with the Australian and British governments and the UK’s National Audit Office and as an executive director of a private sector consulting firm in the UK. Simon now runs his own business. In recent years, his work has focused on monitoring and evaluation within the governance sphere – leading significant studies into the effectiveness of Australian electoral assistance in Papua New Guinea and (separately) the Asia-Pacific region, UK support to foster transboundary water governance for the major international rivers in South Asia and an initiative to build capacity for more evidence-informed policy-making in Indonesia.
Stuart Astill has over 20 years of experience working at the heart of analytical, strategic, policy and operational thinking in Government. This has taken place in a variety of settings working with public officials, private-sector, third-sector and academic experts, elected representatives and ministers. His qualitative and quantitative skills span performance analysis, statistical, economic and operational research functions across a breadth of experience identifying and tackling emerging high-profile issues, carrying out impact assessments and establishing innovative projects.
Stuart’s skills have been applied to create insights improving decision making, operational efficiency and VfM. He has worked with, or within, international governments/NGOs, UK government and the European Commission. He has also worked on a wide range of consultancy projects with private sector and third-sector clients in the UK and around the world.
As well as his practitioner and academic work Stuart is an experienced speaker, trainer and coach on technical subjects, personal development and management/leadership skills.
